Product Description
This is a coffee table book of colour caricatures by artist R.K.Laxman. This book comprises of portraits of well known personalities from around the world. As told by R.K.Laxman, I had an easy time drawing the popular world figures.Winston Churchill generously lent his famous cigar with which he could be symbolized and, perhaps, even be dispensed with altogether, drawing only the cigar.Stalin had his formidable whiskers.Hitler and his tooth brush moustache.Mahatma Gandhi, he wholly offered himself to the caricaturist. Jinnahs monocle, cigarette holder and extraordinary physical thinness were all pegs for the caricaturist to hang his talent on. When I visited the Disney studio in Hollywood, I was very eager to meet Walt Disney, whose contribution to the make believe world of animated beings no one had surpassed. But when he met me I was disappointed. He talked like an industrial tycoon and corporate giant, rather than an artist with a truly stunning imagination. Even as a child I was attracted to the works of David Low. The visit of the famous British cartoonist David Low to meet me in my office elevated my status in the Times office. One December morning in 1952 I arrived at the office went towards my cubicle worrying my head about the days work. When I opened the door I could not believe my eyes when I saw David Low and his wife waiting for me, my life time hero who has come to meet me and waiting in my own cubicle. In London I met Graham Greene. As we talked I studied Grahams face, taking note of the many folds, furrows and creases which kept appearing and vanishing alternatively registering his emotions. This is a unique book and one of its kind.
