Edwin Gale studied English Literature at Cambridge before switching to a career in medicine. He worked in Cambridge, Nottingham, Copenhagen, and as a professor at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. Research into the rise of diabetes stimulated his interest in our changing phenotype.
