This is one of those books I will keep on my bedside table for years. Not because it's heavy going — actually the writing is beautifully accessible — but because there is so much to return to. Devdutt Pattanaik covers ground that most of us are navigating and does so with real depth and compassion. Highly recommend.
I've been shopping at Crossword stores for years but only recently started using their website regularly — crosswordbookstores.com has genuinely impressed me. The catalogue is enormous, the filters work well, and the curated reading lists are a great discovery tool. Ordered this along with a couple of others and everything arrived together, well-packed and right on time. Between the book and the shopping experience, five stars all the way.
I came to this book at exactly the right time in my life — which probably sounds like something everyone says, but I mean it genuinely. Devdutt Pattanaik's voice is calm and wise and completely non-preachy, and the ideas are presented in a way that feels immediately applicable. I have already re-read three chapters and underlined more passages than I can count.
Reading this felt like a long conversation with someone genuinely wise. Devdutt Pattanaik has a rare ability to make ancient wisdom feel completely relevant to modern life — nothing feels dusty or theoretical. I have gifted this to three people already and every one of them has come back grateful for the recommendation.
There are self-help books that tell you what to do and then there are books that quietly shift the way you see things. My Gita is firmly the second kind. Devdutt Pattanaik takes ideas that could feel abstract and makes them feel personal and real. I found myself stopping after every few pages just to sit with what I had read.
