Six of Crows has everything. A brilliant heist plot, six fully realised characters, extraordinary world-building, and prose that crackles with energy. Bardugo writes with tremendous confidence and the plotting is meticulous. I was completely invested in every character's individual journey as well as the collective mission. The twists are perfectly handled. I cannot recommend this highly enough to anyone who loves fantasy or even just great storytelling. One of the finest genre novels of the last decade. Stunning.
Six of Crows grabbed me on page one and did not let go for a single moment. Bardugo writes fantasy with a contemporary energy that makes the genre feel completely alive. The heist elements are brilliant, the characters are extraordinary, and the world is rich with detail. I was completely absorbed in every subplot and the main narrative equally. The ending sets up the sequel perfectly. This is premium fantasy writing and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Essential.
Six of Crows is worth reading for Kaz Brekker alone. He is one of the most fully realised morally complex characters in contemporary fantasy. But the rest of the crew are equally well-drawn and their individual backstories add tremendous emotional depth to the heist narrative. Bardugo writes action brilliantly and the pacing is relentless. The world of Ketterdam is beautifully specific. This is fantasy at its very best. I have pressed this into the hands of every reader I know.
The heist genre and epic fantasy are two of my favourite things and Six of Crows combines them brilliantly. Bardugo has constructed an intricate, layered plot that rewards attention. The six characters each bring something essential to the crew and their dynamics are fascinating. The Ice Court sequence is among the most thrilling extended sequences I have read in any genre. This is the kind of book that makes you remember why you fell in love with reading. An absolute five-star experience.
Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows is a masterpiece of fantasy writing. The heist plot is brilliantly constructed, the world of Ketterdam is vividly realised, and the cast of six misfits is one of the most compelling ensembles in the genre. Kaz Brekker is an extraordinary protagonist, morally complex and deeply human beneath the ruthlessness. Every character has a complete arc. The writing is sharp and propulsive. I read this in two days and immediately began the sequel. An absolute must-read.
