Product Description

Discover the profound depths of Punjabi literature with "White Blood," a remarkable novel by the acclaimed author Nanak Singh. This lyrical masterpiece showcases the journey of Gupteshwar, a celebrated writer who finds himself in unexpected circumstances at the Amritsar Railway Station. What begins as a chance encounter with a ticket officer reveals much more about the societal issues plaguing twentieth-century Punjab.

At the heart of "White Blood" lies an unfinished manuscript, a tale that unfolds through the lens of two women, illuminating the moral decay and the harsh realities of life in Punjab. As Gupteshwar reads from his work, readers are drawn into nested narratives that blend fiction and reality, compelling them to reflect on deeper themes of corruption, casteism, and inequality.

With rich prose and vibrant storytelling, Nanak Singh captures the essence of everyday life in a society where those entrusted with moral leadership often betray their own values. This pivotal novel offers an unflinching look at a world where power dynamics dictate the lives of the vulnerable, making it a significant contribution to Punjabi literature and a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of social morality.

Immerse yourself in a compelling narrative that not only entertains but also challenges perceptions and provokes thought. "White Blood" is an essential addition to your reading list and an important exploration of the human condition in a time of societal upheaval.

About Author

Nanak Singh (1897‐1971) is widely recognized as the 'Father of Punjabi Novel' and has left an indelible mark on various literary genres. He emphasized the interplay between character and incident, considering character as the determinant of events and incidents as reflections of character. His literary canvas often portrayed glimpses of contemporary life veiled in a shroud of romantic idealism. His novel, Ik Mian Do Talwaran earned him India's highest literary accolade, the Sahitya Akademi Award, in 1962. Additionally, his novel Pavitar Paapi was made into a motion picture in 1968, and Chitta Lahu was skilfully translated into Russian by Natasha Tolstoy. Dilraj Suri, a technical writer and localization professional, hails from a family of writers and educators. Growing up, he was immersed in the captivating realms of novels, poetry, comic books and magazines, and it ignited his passion to undertake the translation of his grandfather Nanak Singh’s epic novel, Chitta Lahu, into English.
