Product Description

Where is India heading today? As it stands at a crucial juncture, the nation has recently claimed its position as the fifth-largest economy in the world, surpassing the United Kingdom. However, the challenges remain daunting, particularly in providing adequate employment opportunities for the swelling workforce. This thought-provoking exploration delves into the pressing questions facing India's economic future.

The authors present a thorough analysis of India’s unique situation. While the country boasts a respectable growth rate compared to other large economies, it falls short in creating the vast number of jobs needed for its youth. Factors such as stiff competition in low-skilled manufacturing, rising global protectionism, and the accelerating pace of automation further complicate the landscape. The narrative challenges the divisive majoritarianism and considers how India has deviated from traditional developmental pathways.

No longer can India simply revert to outdated development models. Instead, the authors advocate for forging a distinctly Indian approach aimed at sustainable growth. By emphasizing investment in human capital, expanding avenues in high-skilled services and manufacturing, and fostering a culture of innovation, India can redefine its future. The authors draw on the strength of India’s democratic traditions, calling for necessary governance reforms to bolster democratic institutions and encourage decentralization.

With a balanced perspective, the authors not only commend the successes of the Indian establishment but also identify its shortcomings, pushing for a break from the constraints of the past. Presented with clarity and enriched with compelling examples and persuasive arguments, this book becomes essential reading for anyone invested in understanding and shaping India’s trajectory.
