Book Summary
A classic theatre drama from a renowned playwright, presented in a modern edition that invites readers to explore power, illusion, and the lure of magic as a shipwrecked party encounters a mysterious island. Geared toward teens and adults who love literature, theatre, and imaginative storytelling, the tone is adventurous, spellbinding, and thought-provoking.
The edition includes an introduction by Martin Butler and a performance-focused approach that helps readers connect language to stagecraft. The reading experience feels vivid and accessible, inviting you to hear the verse aloud, picture the setting, and consider how magic shapes character and outcomes without giving away surprises.
Follow a powerful magician and a royal party as they navigate ambition, trust, and shifting loyalties in a land where spirits and enchantment blur the line between truth and illusion.
Readers finish with a deeper understanding of dramatic language and stagecraft, a strengthened appreciation for theatre and literature, and a lasting sense of wonder about how stories illuminate human questions.
