Sudha Murty is an Indian educator, author, and philanthropist. She is the Founder-Chairperson of the non-profit charitable organization Infosys Foundation. She is married to the co-founder of Infosys, N. R. Narayana Murthy.
I picked this up on a recommendation and I'm so glad I did. Sudha Murty has produced something special here โ enjoyable to read while also being genuinely substantive. The kind of book you want to press into people's hands. Five stars without any hesitation at all.
Few books manage to be both intellectually stimulating and genuinely enjoyable to read. Common Yet Uncommon is one of them. Sudha Murty's command of the subject is evident throughout and the presentation is superb. Highly, highly recommended.
Genuinely one of the best books I've read this year. Sudha Murty writes with clarity and intelligence and the ideas in Common Yet Uncommon are both original and immediately relevant. I came away from it thinking differently about something I thought I understood. That doesn't happen often. Highly recommended.
It contains 14 stories. The plot setting is in North Karnataka which has the essence of a village. These stories are part of the author's growing up years, life in her hometown and the people she met. Simple language but with a bundle of polished vocabulary. Every story has good thoughts (moral of the stories), taught many lessons, various incidences, behavior with backgrounds and current lines of different personalities (shown their strength, weakness, good and bad habits) with their families, culture, traditions, many functions like marriage ceremony, brought up good and bad occasions or situations, varied moods and emotions, historical references about - Siddhartha, Vijaynagar Empire, mentioned River Ganga, Kunti, etc.
This is exactly what a good book should do โ entertain you, challenge you, and leave you feeling like the time was genuinely well spent. Sudha Murty delivers on all three counts. I've already recommended it to everyone in my office. A wonderful purchase.
